Before departing the United States, ensure you have the required documents, understand the U.S. entry process, and review any travel restrictions or re-entry requirements that may apply to your situation.<\/p>\n

Before Departing the United States<\/h2>\n

Before travelling, make sure you:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Maintain valid F-1 or J-1 status and continue to meet all academic or program requirements.<\/li>\n
  2. Request a travel signature through the International Services Portal at least two weeks before departure.<\/li>\n
  3. Verify that your passport, visa, and immigration documents are valid.<\/li>\n
  4. Review your destination country’s entry requirements and U.S. re-entry requirements.<\/li>\n
  5. Do not schedule travel that causes you to miss required classes, exams, or program obligations. Personal travel is not an acceptable reason for academic absences.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Important Visa Reminder: <\/strong>A valid U.S. visa is not required to maintain F-1 or J-1 status while you remain in the United States. However, a valid visa is generally required to re-enter the U.S. after international travel, unless you qualify for an exception such as Automatic Visa Revalidation. If you apply for a new visa while abroad and your application is delayed or denied, you may be unable to return to the United States as planned, which could interrupt your studies or program and affect your ability to maintain F-1 or J-1 status.<\/p>\n

    Required Documents for Re-Entry into the United States<\/h2>\n

    Carry the following documents with you when returning to the United States:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Valid passport (valid for at least six months beyond your return date)<\/li>\n
    2. Valid F-1 or J-1 visa (unless exempt)<\/li>\n
    3. Form I-20 or DS-2019 with a valid travel signature:<\/li>\n
    4. F-1 students: within the last 12 months (or within 6 months while on OPT)<\/li>\n
    5. J-1 students and scholars: within the required validity period<\/li>\n
    6. Printed I-94 record<\/li>\n
    7. Additional supporting documents, if applicable (such as proof of employment or EAD card)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Students and scholars traveling during their grace period are not eligible to re-enter the United States in F-1 or J-1 status.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
