A Deeper Understanding of Identity
School of Social Work Professor Wahiba Abu-Ras, PhD, hopes her students 鈥渄ig deep into the issue of social identities鈥 through her research on belonging. Individuals, she said, have multiple social identities鈥攚ith race, gender, class, sexual orientation and disability overlapping and interacting in complex ways. Her hope is for a more inclusive campus and society.
Rethinking Adult Social Relationships
Associate Dean Katherine Fiori, PhD, Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology, talks about her research, aimed at understanding how adults can best 鈥渓ead a happy, healthy life.鈥 They need not just close family ties, she said, but also so-called 鈥渨eak ties鈥 that present stimulation and 鈥渘ovel opportunities鈥 for social interaction.

College of Nursing and Public Health Assistant Professor Zainab Toteh Osakwe 鈥06,聽聽PhD, discusses the importance of home health aides for the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic in New York鈥攁nd the role of the Clinical Education and Simulation Lab (CESiL) home-care setting in nurses鈥 training.
Transforming STEM in Higher Education
茄子视频鈥檚 Professor Lawrence Hobbie, PhD, and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Academic Advancement Eugenia Villa-Cuesta, PhD, discuss their multidisciplinary effort to inspire diverse students to enter the STEM workforce through the STEM2 Network. This project is funded by a five-year, $500,000 National Science Foundation grant and involves collaboration with biology, chemistry and math faculty at four other local institutions.

A. Hasan Sapci, MD, assistant professor in Adelphi鈥檚 College of Nursing and Public Health, is a leading telemedicine researcher; his Smart Home for Home Healthcare Lab helps nursing students monitor patients remotely.
Paul Moravec, DMA
Paul Moravec, DMA, composer and Adelphi professor, received the 2004 Pulitzer Prize in Music for Tempest Fantasy, a work inspired by the Shakespeare play.
