Gain Global Insights in Less Time with Faculty-led Programs
Faculty-led study abroad programs are short-term programs and an excellent way to earn Adelphi credit and study a special topic with an Adelphi professor in a new cultural context.
Service-Learning in Kenya

Helpful Travel Resources
Most full-time Adelphi undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to study abroad if they:
- Have completed at least two semesters at Adelphi
- Are in good academic and disciplinary standing
- Meet the minimum GPA requirement:
- Undergraduate students: 2.5 GPA
- Graduate students: 3.0 GPA
Students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply, including College of Professional and Continuing Studies and online students.
International students may also participate. Sponsored international students must obtain written approval from their sponsor, and visa and immigration requirements will be reviewed before acceptance.
Employees’ dependents who receive tuition benefits may participate in Adelphi exchange programs. Tuition waiver benefits cannot be applied toward third-party provider tuition.
Adelphi offers semester, short-term and summer study abroad opportunities through university exchange programs, faculty-led experiences and approved study abroad providers.
You may study abroad for:
- One semester
- Up to one full academic year (two semesters)
- One summer session
Students may even study in different countries during consecutive semesters.
, including many English-speaking destinations. Adelphi does not approve programs in countries or regions with active U.S. Department of State travel warnings.
No. Many s offer courses taught entirely in English, and no foreign language experience is required.
However, studying abroad is an excellent opportunity to learn a new language or improve your language skills through immersion in another culture.
Students studying abroad remain enrolled at Adelphi and generally continue paying Adelphi tuition and fees. If your program鈥檚 tuition exceeds Adelphi鈥檚 tuition, you will be responsible for paying the difference.
Students are also responsible for expenses such as:
- Housing and meals
- Airfare
- Local transportation
- Passport and visa fees
- Personal expenses
- Optional travel and excursions
Most students remain eligible for:
- 100% of their federal financial aid
- 50% to 100% of Adelphi institutional aid, depending on the program
A limited number of study abroad scholarships are also available. The Center for International Education will help you prepare a budget and coordinate financial aid.
To maintain full-time status, undergraduate students must enroll in at least 12 Adelphi-equivalent credits per semester (up to 16 credits). Graduate students must enroll in at least 9 credits or the equivalent, as approved by their graduate supervisor.
Courses are selected with your faculty adviser before departure to ensure they apply toward your degree requirements.
Upon successful completion of your program:
- Approved courses completed with a grade of C- or higher (or the equivalent) transfer back to Adelphi.
- Grades appear on your transcript but are not calculated into your Adelphi GPA.
- You remain enrolled as an Adelphi student throughout your semester abroad, maintaining eligibility for financial aid, scholarships and university services.
With proper planning, studying abroad should not delay your graduation.

Application requirements vary by program. Meet with a study abroad adviser by emailing cie@adelphi.edu for guidance.
Typical Adelphi application deadlines are:
- April 15 for summer, fall and full-year programs
- October 15 for spring semester programs
Some partner programs have earlier or rolling deadlines, and faculty-led programs may have different application dates.
All students participating in study abroad are required to purchase Adelphi’s approved international medical and accident insurance plan.
You will also need:
- A valid passport that remains valid for at least six months beyond your return date
- Any required visas or residence permits for your destination country
Students are responsible for obtaining passports and visas. Some countries require in-person visa interviews, so begin the application process as early as possible.
