The Guest Artist Series has proven to be a particularly exciting one for the AUPAC this year. Bruce Hornsby is a multi-genre improvisational artist best known for the spontaneity and creativity of his live shows who, over the years, has successfully ventured into jazz, classical, blues, rock, bluegrass, and even electronica. In his two-and-a-half decade recording career, not only has Mr. Hornsby won the Best New Artist, Best Bluegrass Recording, and Best Pop Instrumental Grammys, but he has also been nominated 13 times. In reference to his intensive solo gigs, Hornsby says that they have helped him to 鈥渞ecommit to the study of piano鈥 and 鈥渢ake [his] playing to a whole new level.鈥 His commercial music soared early on when 鈥淭he Way It Is鈥濃攖he title track of Bruce Hornsby and the Range鈥檚 1986 debut album鈥攂ecame the most-played song on American radio in 1987, and then won The American Society of Composers鈥, Authors鈥 and Publishers鈥 (ASCAP) Song of the Year award. 鈥淭he Way It Is鈥 and subsequent hits like 鈥淢andolin Rain鈥 and 鈥淓very Little Kiss,鈥 established Hornsby as a popular pop act while high-profile work with the likes of Don Henley and Huey Lewis made him an in-demand collaborator.

His eclectic musical interests have been reflected in a wide array of recording projects with a prestigious list of collaborators including, Bob Dylan, Bela Fleck, Bonnie Raitt, Elton John, Chaka Khan, Tupac Shakur, and Sting.
