Silas W. Kelly is a licensed master social worker (LMSW). He received a dual bachelor鈥檚 degree in broadcast journalism and public communications from Brooklyn College in 1997, and he graduated with honors from the Adelphi School of Social Work in 2014. In 2013, Kelly was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), a national leadership honor society. That May, he was also awarded the 茄子视频 School of Social Work 鈥淧atricia Hochfelder Memorial Scholarship鈥 for outstanding academic achievement and demonstration of a commitment to fairness and social justice by a minority graduate SWK student.

He presently serves as a mental health social worker at Concern for Independent Living and a substance use disorder social worker for the Town of Smithtown鈥檚 Horizons Counseling and Education Center.

On July 1, 2017 Kelly began a two-year, elected term to the board of directors of the National Association-Social Workers (NASW) New York State Chapter, Region 5, representing Nassau and Suffolk counties. Prior to that, he served for two years as director of the Suffolk Division of NASW. At the culmination of his term, Kelly was awarded a plaque recognizing his 鈥淐ommitment and Dedication to the goals of the Social Work Profession.鈥

Silas鈥檚 Tips for Scholastic Success:

  1. 鈥淭he first five weeks are crucial to academic success, so it is important to stay on top of readings and assignments.鈥
  2. 鈥淭ry to get as involved as you can in activities, but don鈥檛 spread yourself too thin. Nothing should come before your academics.鈥
  3. 鈥淪it in front of all your classes and get to know your professors. Ask a lot of questions. Don鈥檛 be intimidated to let them know that you don鈥檛 understand something.鈥
  4. 鈥淔ind your passion and use that passion to help people. At the end of the day, that鈥檚 what it鈥檚 all about.鈥
