From our Adelphi days to the many chapters that followed, each of us has a story to tell. These pages capture just a few of the memories, milestones, adventures and moments that have shaped our lives since graduation.

As we celebrate the Classes of 1974鈥1977, we invite you to look back, reminisce and celebrate the journeys of the classmates who shared this special chapter of our lives.

After graduating from Adelphi in 1974, I was off to NYC for my first job working for a small CPA firm. I decided in 1979 I wanted more than that position had to offer and I returned to Adelphi, Full-Time on a Graduate Assistantship in the School of Business. This all came about thanks to Dr. Neale Kurlander, a former professor.. I actually worked 20 hours per week for 3 professors and I received FREE tuition for my MBA. After graduation I received an offer from American Express in Manhattan. Commuting to NYC was a challenge and I therefore decided to find employment on Long Island. After working for a few years for American Express, I received an offer to work for Nassau BOCES in Westbury. I was Assistant Manager of Accounting & Insurance. After getting a promotion and working there for a few more years, I decided it was time to move on. I ended up working for the Freeport UFSD. It was there that I learned about how a school districts operates. I actually went back to school, CW Post, and received my Post Masters Degree in School Business Administration. I eventually became the School Business Official at the Elmont UFSD and I happily retired from there in 2013.

My favorite Adelphi memory: I went to Spain for two weeks with fellow classmate Phil Seid. A most memorable experience.

Class of January 1975, B.A. Biology I have had a well-travelled and full life since Adelphi. I was a Paris based fashion photographer for three decades working for international clients. I married and had my two children there. Afterwards I moved back to NY and then Miami working as a Creative Director. I am presently retired, living once again in Europe, in Frankfurt am Main. I am always thankful for my education at Adelphi.

My favorite Adelphi memory: Having beers in the Rathskeller with Professor Grob (physiology)

After graduation I took some time off and went to Puerto Rico to connect with some family. Came back and to NYC and entered a Management Training Program and attended FIT to refine my sketching skills. Hired by Perry Ellis fashions to design handbags and small leather goods. After several years with PE, I took my talents Liz Claiborne Accessories where I continue to design. During my time with both PE and LC, I traveled to Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, Macao and Japan. Today I am enjoying life with my wife of 45 years, my daughter, son and 6 grandkids. Life has been good to me. God Bless.

My favorite Adelphi memory: To many great memories to list, the entire 4 year experience was amazing.

Talk about a well-rounded education! My experiences at Adelphi took me through the fields of photography, broadcasting, publishing, electronics, optics, early computers and some bumps in the road with administrators which involved politics. And that was just extra-curricular activities! Add the actual classes and this very geeky, nerdy kid ended up in Boston attending Optometry School. Fast forward through a career of 50 years and I am now semi-retired from my 80-year old Palmer Eyecare Center in Connecticut. We鈥檝e helped tens of thousands of people live better lives with great vision and enhanced perception with state-of-the-art imaging and diagnostic technologies. Optometry combines optics, perception, psychology, medicine and the ability to carefully interview patients to solve their vision problems. Along the way I鈥檝e built computers, created ad campaigns for print and radio, helped design and build (with professional builders) a home that won a national House of the Year Award for energy efficiency. I have met treasured lifelong friends through Adelphi. Social media brought many of us back together over the years. The faculty and fellow students who helped shape us into the individuals we turned out to be deserve a special thanks. We don鈥檛 appreciate that during our college years.

My favorite Adelphi memory: The Communications and Physics Departments let me explore the fields I would eventually embrace. WBAU (Station Manager) thrived in the NY/Metropolitan radio market. Oracle (co-editor) drove creativity in the publishing industry. Audio/video, broadcasting, publishing, photography, electronics 鈥 there were a lot of opportunities for big rewards and to get into some trouble. I experienced both.

Joan Scerbo 鈥75

I entered Adelphi as a music major in 1971 and graduated in 1975 as Valedictorian of my class as a passionate Italian and French major and I owe it to one Adelphi professor, Romano Giachetti. I initially took an Italian class because of my Italian heritage but was thrilled to find out that taking Italian with Prof. Giachetti was a lot more: it was an art, music, history, architecture and sociology class rolled into one. Romano made Italian come alive to his students, as I have tried to do during my teaching career. Following a fruitful career as instructor of college and advanced Italian and French at Somers High School, I am now teaching privately, either virtually or in-person at my home near Nashville, Tennessee.

My favorite Adelphi memory: Our fabulous trip to Italy with Romano Giachetti and his students.

Following my graduation from Adelphi in 1976, I found myself transferred to New Jersey as part of my company’s relocation from Manhattan. That transfer, with the help of my BA, brought me into the prestigious Overseas Department of AT&T where I was assigned to the team responsible for the planning and development of undersea cable systems in the Asia-Pacific region. Based in Bedminster, NJ, the position required extensive travel throughout Asia, negotiating with telecom carriers from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. European carriers were also part of these negotiations in order to secure bandwidth for their international traffic needs. As such, it would not be uncommon to find myself holding the position of secretary to a new cable’s management committee, often involving more than twenty carriers, while also ensuring AT&T’s requirements were met. With the introduction of fiber-optic undersea cables in the mid 1980’s, I was privileged to be part of the negotiations of the first of these hi-tech systems, which connected the U.S. mainland to Hawaii, Guam and Japan. Today more than 600 undersea cable networks connect our world, together comprising the backbone of the global Internet. Upon my retirement from the telecommunications industry, my wife and I settled in Naples, Florida, where visits from our children and grandchildren are ongoing joyous events.

My favorite Adelphi memory: Meeting fellow night-school students and exchanging work-involved stories with classmates pursuing career advancements enhanced with their degree

Right after graduation I was hired as a bank teller changed to part-time assistant auditor because I began working with the NYC Dept. of Education in1978 as a substitute teacher. I held on to the auditor job because I wasn’t quite sure if I would like teaching. Well in 1980, I left the bank and became a full-time certified teacher at PS/IS 41 The Walter F. White School where I taught 2nd, 3rd and 6th grade over a span of 19 years. During that time I obtained my 1st Master’s Degree in Education from Hunter College and my 2nd Master’s Degree in Education and Administration from Bank Street College via their Principals’ Institute Program. Since my present school had no administration openings I applied to District 16 in Brooklyn as their ELA Coordinator and remained with them until 1997; which is when I returned to PS/IS 41 as the Assistant Principal of grades 4 and 8. In 2004, I was appointed the Principal of PS/IS 298 The Dr. Betty Shabazz School and after 30 years of service I retired in 2009 and left my school with an A+ Grade. In 2004 I began thinking about my Plan “B”. So, I began my journey of being an entrepreneur of my own business in the Health and Wellness arena under the umbrella of E.P.I.C. Holdings, Inc. Which I am still doing. At present I sit on the Executive Board of The BMS Family Health and Wellness Centers as their Vice-chairperson. I have been on this Board for 10 years. I also hold the position of recoding secretary for my St. John’s Seniors’ group. Lastly, I must acknowledge the very special people who have been a part of my journey over the years. Carlton, the love of my life, Damon, my #1 and only son, and my grandchildren, Xavier and Journey, my two book ends.

There are a lot of memories while attending 茄子视频. From the classes, meeting long lasting friends (including the Night Riders) and living on campus. I worked as a physician with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and when I retired worked in private corrections for an additional 12 years. I finally retired in January 2026. My greatest accomplishment is that my husband Terry and I have been married for 36 years, have two wonderful children and four beautiful grandchildren. Much love to everyone and stay in touch. Smooches. A special prayer for those who are unable to make our 50th celebration and for those we have lost, especially my best friends Kim, Jackie and Corby who attended Adelphi.

After graduation, I did a summer internship with Monsanto in St. Louis and then started grad school in chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, and graduated with my PhD in 1982. After graduation I took a post-doctoral position at the US Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, and in late 1983 I joined NASA as a research scientist. I stayed at NASA over 41 years, with over 25 years of that running NASA’s Earth Science research program from its Headquarters in DC before retiring on 4/30/2025. Shortly after coming back East, I met my future wife, and we’ve now been married more than 42 years. We have three grown daughters (all married, scattered around VA, NC, and TX) and three granddaughters. I feel very fortunate, and appreciative that Adelphi positioned me for success.

My favorite Adelphi memory: Monday nights were when we”d “Put the Delphian to bed” laying out all the copy on big sheets, and making it all fit intelligently within the page allocations and then writing the headlines. Sometimes we’d celebrate our completed work at the Lantern diner, which fortunately stayed open late.

It seems that my story has been informed by questions. As an athlete at AU who loved competing (and winning), I sensed “there is much more happening than ‘just’ the score.” After experiencing a most incredible run (a Peak Experience) while skiing. I looked up at the mountain and exclaimed, “Wow! How do you teach that?! I cautiously stepped into the Unknown and beyond what the five senses and the Scientific Method could share. Viewing the individual as a whole person, I envisioned an integration of mind, body and spirit in physical education teacher education, first as a graduate student at UNC Greensboro and eventually as a tenured professor at Kean University. The following were thankfully created as a result of much grass roots support — Holistic Center; Academic courses in T’ai Chi Chih, Reiki, Holistic Health; Holistic Health Graduate Program Proposal; Presentations in North America, Europe and Asia. Certifications as T’ai Chi Chih and Qi Healing/Classical Chinese Medicine Instructors as well as Reiki Master informed my work, my personal growth. I am fortunate to be able to continue teaching and healing in retirement and most importantly, learning. Affording discoveries in personal meaning and purpose can be the “more” that many of us are searching for; a rich, full (whole) life.

My favorite Adelphi memory: During my freshman year, I was competing in a basketball game where the score was tied and only 7 seconds remained on the clock. I shot the ball, but it was not heading in the direction of the basket nor the backboard! I was so embarrassed! Then, the ball suddenly made a sharp left turn, banked on the backboard and went into the basket.

We won! This marked the beginning of my search of the unknowns and the support and encouragement I received from the pe faculty to be 鈥榗reative.鈥

Following graduation in 1976 in Earth Science, I was unsuccessful in finding geology related work, so took a Courier job with BioScience in Rockville Center. In 1978 I joined the Army as an Imagery Interpreter (somewhat related to geology!) serving 4 years active duty which I loved, including a year in Korea. I got out in 1982, got married, and had three kids. Moved to Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico in 1995 and am still here (divorced). Daughter an Army doctor, one son a doctor, and second son in computers. Mostly was a stay at home mom, working part time when possible, retired from military in 2014 (36+ years active/Reserve) and from VA Benefits office in 2023. Now I travel a lot (Greenland, Morocco, Iceland, Jordan, Canada, Egypt) and visit 4 grandkids a lot (Texas, Brooklyn/New Zealand). I love being retired, am in pretty decent health, and love to travel. I鈥檝e been to Bosnia, Iraq x3, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Korea courtesy of Uncle Sam, and Madagascar, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Canada, and more, and much of the US, on my own. I鈥檓 10 years retired after over forty years in the cable and telecommunications industry, holding positions in sales, marketing, public relations, and general management with companies such as Showtime and Comcast. Married since 1980 to Regis (we met working at a radio station in Atlantic City, and he was in college radio, just like me!). My preparation to enter the field of psychology began at Adelphi where I was exposed to many of the different branches of study. In combination with some education courses, I decided to pursue a career in school psychology. I enrolled in graduate work, which included internships in elementary, middle, and secondary schools as well as an internship at Nassau County Medical Center in the Department of Forensics. With the assistance of one of my supervisors, I was able to obtain a position in an elementary school district here on Long Island, where I spent the last 40 years.

Forty-three years of marriage have been the steady thread through a life that鈥檚 rarely stood still. Together we raised two remarkable kids who鈥檝e grown into successful, grounded adults – our greatest pride. My 37-year career as a registered nurse shaped how I see the world, with compassion, resilience, and a deep respect for the human spirit. Outside the hospital, I chased finish lines and horizons. More than 50 marathons and ultramarathons, a full Ironman, and countless miles on multi-day cycling trips taught me endurance in all its forms. I鈥檝e found equal joy on the water as an outrigger canoe racer, and on foot across Spain and Italy during four mother-daughter Camino pilgrimages, each journey leaving its own imprint. Carrying the Olympic Torch, and later the Special Olympics torch, were humbling honors that reflected the power of community and perseverance. Serving as an Honor Flight guardian on two missions stands among the most meaningful of those experiences. In recent years, photography has become both a creative outlet and connection, often paired with fundraising and volunteer work that keeps me engaged and grateful. It鈥檚 been a full, active, and meaningful ride. And I鈥檓 not done yet!

My favorite Adelphi memory: After finals, hospitalization prevented me from attending my graduation and pinning ceremony. Forty-one years later, President Riordan invited me back to be pinned alongside the Class of 2018. Though my parents were no longer there, my husband and brothers stood in their place, witnessing a long-delayed and deeply meaningful moment of closure.

Since graduating from Adelphi in 1977, I have been extremely blessed to find my soulmate of nearly 40 years here in St. Louis, Missouri. Anny and I have raised three wonderful children to be amazing adults. We have 3 grandchildren with a 4th little one due in early December 2026. I retired from my job as Global Director of Field Engineering Services at UL Solutions in 2021. This career afforded me the opportunity to travel the world and work with so many amazing people from all walks of life. This past May, I decided to begin work P/T at our local YMCA as a Guest Member Associate to keep both physically and mentally fit and engaged. The three morning weekday shifts of 3 hours each affords me the opportunity to see my grandchildren and partake in my photography hobby when off.

AU greatly shaped my perception of the world, laying the foundation for me to become the best version of myself. From the professors who recognized the infinite possibilities for me, to the coaches who poured their hearts into their craft for my benefit, and then to my fellow students who tested my resolve in unimaginable ways. All contributed mightily to a life well lived. My professional career was not northbound consistently, but every peak and valley came with education, growth and perspective. It took several years for me to find my lane, ultimately turning my focus towards the information technology (IT) sector. It began with MCI in its infancy, which transitioned quickly to a directorship within AT&T鈥檚 Signature Client Group. FedEx pulled me away from AT&T to head their IT/Communications logistics vertical as Managing Director of Global Sales and Implementation, an executive position I held until retirement. Although my professional career consumed a huge chunk of the daily clock I found time to reconnect with AU after decades at arm鈥檚 length. Helping to establish the Multicultural Alumni Chapter, serving on the Panther Club executive committee, the President鈥檚 Advisory Council, and culminating with a nearly 5-year tenure as a member of the Board of Trustees. My greatest joy is now found in enjoying the life my wife and I have built together while watching our 3 kids and 6 grandkids flourish!
