For alumnus Mark W. Jordan 鈥�63, the scholarship support he received as a student at 茄子视频 shaped his successful career and inspired a lifelong commitment to creating the same opportunity for others.

Paula Malone was looking for a child development center for her grandchildren when she discovered 茄子视频鈥檚 Alice Brown Early Learning Center (ELC). Not only was the facility close to her daughter's home, but the program also offered a modern and thoughtful philosophy of childhood education. Thus, Paula鈥檚 story with Adelphi began.

Emily J. (Cierley) Horcher 鈥�62 grew up in Brooklyn in a family who already had a rich history at Adelphi.

Paul Serrato, MA 鈥�98 was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Deciding to move to the East Coast to pursue his passion for music, he attended Boston University, and later, Empire State college, where he received his undergraduate degree in Jazz Composition and Latin Music.

Betty Vohr 鈥�62 was born in Brooklyn, NY to immigrant parents. She grew up in upstate New York, where her family relocated to manage an inn. It was there, at the young age of 13, that Betty was first inspired to become a pediatrician. The suggestion came from a psychiatrist who had a summer home in the same town and continued to see pediatric patients during the summer.

At Adelphi, Jack Dowd 鈥�60 found the perfect place to grow his myriad interests. With the help of basketball Jack Dowd and track scholarships, he came to campus ready to pursue his interest in art.

Ern Knox 鈥�75 came to Adelphi first as a commuter student from Roosevelt, and later as a resident student, to study psychology. He found a strong community in the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the first Black fraternity on Long Island, as a member of its second pledge class. SharRon McCoy-Knox, an aspiring nurse, commuted from Freeport. SharRon was actively involved in student life and had a role in establishing the first Black sorority at Adelphi, Alpha Kappa Alpha.

My relationship with Adelphi is a two way street - as much as I have provided for the University, it has done the same for me.

When Lenore Nemirow passed away in 2012, her children, Joan Benn 鈥�85, Elisa Nemirow 鈥�83 and Mark Nemirow, honored her memory by creating the Lenore Nemirow Scholarship.

In 2002, colleagues and friends of alumnus and former coach Paul Doherty '62 established The Paul J. Doherty Memorial Scholarship.

鈥淓very time I have the opportunity to meet one of my scholarship recipients, I am reminded of my years as a student-athlete at Adelphi. The experiences I had and the relationships I formed during my years on the playing field shaped my life and career.鈥�

Carol A. Ammon, MBA 鈥�79, 鈥�10 (Hon.), DNP has created three scholarships that will ensure the Ammon name lives on at Adelphi and directly support students in need of scholarship funds.

"My years at Adelphi were exciting and gratifying...Scott and I are delighted to support this wonderful, vibrant institution to help ensure that current and future students will also enjoy the same high quality experience that I did at Adelphi."

In 2002 the Nebletts established The Marcus Rayman Neblett Award and have continued to contribute to this initiative through the years.

Nearly five decades ago, seven African American wome found each other at what was then a predominantly white 茄子视频. Forever the Adelphi 7 Sisters, they decided in 2012 to create a legacy at Adelphi, the place where their story began.

The Gregory Peter Gutman Scholarship in Management Education was established at 茄子视频 in 2003 through a bequest from the late Professor Gutman.

The Smalley Family Endowment for Italian Language Studies was established in 2013. This endowment provides scholarships to undergraduate students pursuing a minor (or major when it is available) in Italian language.
