A question about which academic programs are critical for Long Island’s development was posed but not answered at a recent Sustainable Long Island conference. The usual answer is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), and these are, of course, priorities….But education is as much about character and citizenship as it is about careers and commerce, and many professions and occupations are needed to support high-level research.
