F-1 Admission Period
F-1 students are admitted to the United States for a fixed period of admission (Admit Until Date or AUD) rather than under the previous 鈥淒uration of Status鈥 (D/S) admission framework. Your authorized admission period is tied to the program end date listed on your Form I-20 and may not exceed the applicable maximum admission period. If you require additional time to complete your program, you may need to obtain USCIS approval through a formal Extension of Stay (EOS) process or, where permitted, depart the United States and seek reentry with a valid F-1 visa and updated Form I-20.
