Student I-20 and DS-2019 Requests
International students attending ÇÑ×ÓÊÓÆµ must obtain a Form I-20 (F-1 students) or Form DS-2019 (J-1 students).
These immigration documents allow you to:
- Apply for a student visa
- Enter the United States
- Register for classes
- Maintain student status
How to Request Your I-20 or DS-2019
After you are admitted and submit your , you will receive access to the through your Adelphi email account.
In the portal, you will:
- Upload required documents
- Submit financial documentation
- Receive your issued I-20 or DS-2019
To help ensure your visa is processed on time, please submit your request by:
- July 15 — Fall semester
- December 15 — Spring semester
- April 15 — Summer Term (select programs only)

Prospective F-1 and J-1 students must show proof of sufficient financial support before an immigration document can be issued.

Important Information
- Financial support must cover at least one academic year.
- Students must show the same level of funding whether living on campus or off campus.
- Additional coursework or academic terms will increase costs.
- Multiple sponsors are permitted.
- All costs are estimates and subject to annual increases.
- International Services may verify financial documents with financial institutions.
Bank Statements
Bank statements must:
- Be issued within the past 6 months
- Show liquid funds (checking, savings, or time deposits)
- Include the account holder name, balance, and currency type
- Be in English or include an official translation
- Include the financial institution’s name and contact information
Important Notes:
- Personal funds: You must show funding for your full academic program or provide evidence of ongoing income.
- Business/company funds: You may submit business account funds with the proper supporting documents. Since company income is not the same as the owner’s personal income, you must include an official statement showing the salary the company pays to the owner/sponsor or from the company CEO that funds can be withdrawn to cover the educational expenses of the applicant.
Scholarship or Assistantship Letters
Letters must include:
- Type of award
- Award amount
- Academic period covered
Loan Approval Letters
Loan documents must include:
- Name of lender
- Approved loan amount
- Confirmation of approval
- Academic period covered
Sponsors Providing Housing
Students receiving free housing from a sponsor may submit:
- Lease, deed, or rental agreement
- Letter confirming free housing support
Housing credit amounts:
- $14,335 — Undergraduate students
- $18,704 — Graduate students
Students unable to arrive by the program start date due to visa delays may request a Late Start Authorization.
Late arrival approval is only possible if:
- The academic department approves the request
- The new start date is within one week of the original start date
- The student can still enroll full-time in in-person classes
- International Services receives written authorization of the approval
If approved, International Services will issue an updated Form I-20 with a revised start date.

If late arrival is not approved, students must defer to a future term.
Students who cannot arrive for their intended semester may request to defer admission and receive a new Form I-20 for a future term.
Eligibility Requirements
You may defer only if:
- You were issued an Initial Attendance I-20
- You have not entered the U.S. using that I-20
- You are readmitted and paid your deposit for a future term
- You submit updated I-20 documents before the current program start date
Important Information
- Students who do not attend Adelphi will have their I-20 cancelled.
- Students who enter the U.S. but fail to enroll may have their SEVIS record terminated and may need a new I-20 and SEVIS fee payment.
How to Request a Deferral
- Contact International Admissions to request deferral.
- Submit the Deferral I-20 Request in the International Services Portal.
- Upload updated required documents before your current I-20 start date.
